If you are new or interested in joining Piranha-Waves Swim Team , here is some basic information that you need to know.

Q: How do I register for the team
A: Registration is online here or look for the big registration link in the upper right corner of the website. Payments can be made online or by check to the team coordinator.

Q: Where can I get up to date information about the team?
A: Read recent news on the home page or join our Facebook group for team photos, news and updates.

Q: What days are swim meets?
A: Swim meets are typically the same day of the week the entire season. The day rotates one day forward each year from Monday to Thursday. There are no swim meets on Fridays.

Q: When do swim meets starts?
A: Meets begin at 6:00 pm. For home meets warm-up begins at 5:00 pm. For away meets warm-up begins at 5:30 pm.

Q: Where is the Paces Club community pool?
A: The pool address is 4207 Glenaire Way, Acworth, GA 30101, off exit 273 Wade Green Road, I-75.

Q: Do kids receive ribbons?
A: The morning after each swim meet we have Donuts and Ribbons practice day at 10:00 am to pass out ribbons and donuts. Ribbons are given to the top 6 finishers of each race.

Q: What is “Ribbons and Donuts practice”?
A: The mornings after our swim meets are what we call “Ribbons and Donuts practice”. All age groups come at the same time and we spend an hour and fifteen minutes playing in the water. In other words, no workout!

Q: Do we have to volunteer if our child swims for the team?
A: Yes! Because Piranha-Waves Swim Team is an entirely volunteer-run organization. As such, we depend on parents to staff all positions at every swim meet.

Q: If my child is sick the day of the meet what can we do?
A: Contact one of the team coordinators or a coach as soon as possible so your child can be removed from races that day. It makes for a much smoother swim meet.

Q: What is the volunteer sign in process?
A: Volunteers sign in and out at the start and end of each session. The sign in sheet will be under the big pavilion on the picnic table or the wall.

Q: What is a volunteer session?
A: A session consists of one half of a swim meet, which equates to approximately events 1-46 for session 1 and events 47-86 for session 2.

Q: How do I know when to start working my session at a swim meet?
A: Session 1 volunteers start working at 6:00 pm and session 2 volunteers start on event #47. Be ready to go at least five minutes before your session so that everything runs smoothly.

Q: What if it is raining?
A: Practices and meets will be held if it is only raining.  In the event of thunder or lightning, swimmers must wait 30 minutes after the last occurrence before getting back into the pool. Swimmer safety is the paramount concern.

Q: Do we practice the morning of a swim meet day?
A: Yes, we have regular practices on the morning of a swim meet day. They tend to be a little lighter than usual, though, focusing on techniques like entries and turns.

Q: How do I sign up for a meet?
A: An email will be sent out inviting you to indicate your attendance to the meet.

Q: How do I find out what I’m swimming at a meet?
A: Race assignments will be emailed to the swimmer’s family on the morning or early afternoon of the swim meet. If there are special considerations please speak with your coach.

Q: What should I bring to a swim meet?
A: Be sure to bring chairs as we do not always know how much seating will be provided. You should also bring towels, sunscreen, snacks, a sharpie marker, and cash for the Concession Stand. We also suggest bringing items to keep your child entertained while waiting for their events. Items such as card games, books, small activities are highly recommended. Please note that some away meets do not permit outside food; we’ll let you know if that’s the case.

Q: How long does a swim meet last?
A: A swim meet lasts around 4 hours. The exact length depends on the size of the swim teams competing and the efficiency of the volunteers.

Q: Does my child have to attend every practice?
A: We understand that many families have summer vacation, camp plans, and other activities which will conflict with team activities. Missing a day or two here or there is no big deal. Work hard while you’re here and have a good time.
